Photographing Ben the morning after he was born was so much fun. I’d photographed Ivy during her pregnancy and was looking forward to meeting her newest addition. At nearly 10lbs, Ben was the biggest newborn I’d ever seen! Despite a long labor Ivy was joyful and beaming when I entered her recovery room at the hospital in Hood River. There’s something truly magical about entering a bright, happy hospital room where a brand new, hours old baby awaits.

Capturing portraits of Ivy and her daughter, Grace, along with her beautiful big belly was a wonderful way to spend an early spring morning. Ivy lives on a ranch so we took advantage of the sunshine and her beautiful property. Ivy has an infectious laugh and smile, and she was glowing in the final weeks of her second pregnancy.

The Stauffacher-Lee family happen to be our cat’s vet. When Kerry and Dave asked me to take their family portraits I was thrilled. I had taken a few photographs of their son, Dylan, during the summer and I’d loved the way they turned out. So having an entire afternoon of backlit magic with them was a true joy. We did this session in mid-November, barely squeezing it in before the snow hit and the weather turned too cold for photos. Dylan was at such a fun age: engaged, adventurous, and incredibly cute.

I’ve known the Hennessey family: Brian, DeeDee, Lucy and Inga, for years. They’re one of the first families I met after moving to Hood River. When they asked me to take their family portraits I was thrilled. I’d snapped photos of Inga, their youngest daughter, over the years when I’d crossed paths with her on play dates, but never had the chance to spend a few hours with all of them together. Their girls are so lovely, both inside and out, just like their parents. We met up in early fall just as the weather was starting to switch from summer to autumn. It was windy and bright and a the air was perfectly crisp. We had so much fun together playing at the beach and walking through the fields. This is one of my favorite family sessions to date.
