I’d been a reader of Ashley’s food blog, Not Without Salt, for some time. When she and her family drove down to visit Hood River I sent her an email to see if we could meet up for lunch. We (my husband and our girls) met up with them (Ashley, Gabe, and their three kids) for pizza and beer. That turned into a long afternoon sitting, sipping, and talking. The following day I tagged along with them as they picked apples and took a few photos of them. We’ve all become fast friends, bonding over a shared love of food, beer, and babies.

Our neighbors, Kate and Sean, welcomed a sweet baby girl and asked me to come photograph her. Nora was born with lots of dark hair, and little fat rolls on each plump limb. Photographing her was such a sweet way to spend an afternoon. Nora’s chubby cheeks were enough to give me a good flush of baby fever as I edited through the photographs. Kate was so content and calm in her new role and Nora’s mom, it was incredibly sweet.

There’s something extra special about getting to photograph a newborn who’s parents wedding you also photographed. Jen was just inching out of the first trimester when she and Dennis tied the knot. So, about six months later, they asked me to come photograph their newborn daughter. Ryleigh had red whisps of hair and bright eyes (although she kept them closed for most of our newborn session), and was happiest perched on her mom’s shoulder. It was a beautiful spring day so we wandered around their property taking photos and enjoying the spring breeze. Ryleigh chose herself really wonderful parents.

Baby Georgia is the third Kunkler baby I’ve had the pure joy of photographing. I met Steph and her family when she was expecting Harrison, her oldest child, and have since come to call Steph one of my best friends. Andy, Steph, Harrison, Lucia, and now Georgia, are five of my favorite people to spend time with and to photograph. When I photographed Lucia’s arrival and newborn photos, the family was living in California. But now they’re back in Hood River! So we spent a spring afternoon welcoming and photographing Baby Georgia… I have a feeling we’ll be calling her “Baby” Georgia for the next several years…

I photographed my dear friend Stephanie’s pregnancies (you can see some of those images here). All three of them. In fact, that is how we met and became good friends. I knew her only in passing when she had me photograph her first pregnancy with her son Harrison. I knew her a bit better after when she asked me to photograph her second pregnancy with her first daughter Lucia. She and her husband flew me to San Diego, where they moved for a short time, to photograph Lucia’s arrival and newborn portraits. So, by the time Steph learned she was pregnant for a third time, again with a little girl, we had become close friends. It’s been such a joy and honor to capture this growing family over the past six years; and an even greater joy and honor to get to call Steph one of my very best friends.
